How Xero Platinum Partner WLP Singapore chose Tofu after testing four extraction tools.

WLP is a Xero Platinum Partner and Singapore's 2025 E Invoicing Champion. After cycling through Receipt Bank, HubDoc, File AI, and Simple AI over twelve years, they chose Tofu because their team could actually adopt it.

4 tools tested. 1 kept.

Receipt Bank (Dext), HubDoc, File AI, Simple AI. Then Tofu.

"Let Tofu handle it."

What WLP tells other Singapore firms

Junior remote. Senior local.

The modern accounting firm structure

Twelve years in. Four extraction tools tested. None stuck.

WLP is twelve years in. A team of fifteen in Singapore plus five offshore in Malaysia and Sri Lanka. They serve SMEs across Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, the UK, and Hong Kong. Eighty percent of their book is local. They have been on the panel with NUS Enterprise for close to eight years, serving startups backed by the NUS alumni network.

In 2025 they were named a Xero Platinum Partner and the Xero Asia E Invoicing Champion of the Year (Singapore).

That level of sophistication usually means a firm has its tech stack locked down. WLP did not. They had tried four different extraction tools over twelve years. None of them stuck.

"I think compliance work is something that should be shrinking. Going forward, junior bookkeepers will handle the data entry work with the help of automations. The higher value work, the reviewing, the communication with clients, that stays with senior staff in Singapore."
Li Han Tan, Co Founder, WLP

The tools that came before

Receipt Bank was the original. Then Xero took over HubDoc and offered it free, so WLP migrated everyone across.

Over the years, the frustration built.

"Nothing has been done. In terms of line item extractions, in terms of accuracy, in terms of account code classifications. You don't get any updates honestly from that. Which is a pity."
Li Han Tan, Co Founder, WLP

Bank statements were the next gap. HubDoc could not handle them, so in 2023 WLP added another vendor alongside. That worked for a while. Then the support evaporated.

"At the start they were actually very up to date. But somehow the support went missing. One person left and there was nobody supporting us anymore."
Li Han Tan, Co Founder, WLP

By 2025, WLP was actively shopping again.

The accounting show that changed the calculation

Li Han met Jay Sen Lon, Tofu's Sales Director, at the XeroCon in Singapore 2025. A mutual contact made the introduction. Jay ran a demo.

"It was the right time. We were actually looking to transit to another platform. We were already exploring solutions."
Li Han Tan, Co Founder, WLP

On paper, other vendors looked competitive. But the previous experience weighed on the team. And when Li Han's colleagues got hands on both products, the difference was immediate.

"The other apps, the interface, the user intuition, how you use the UI, it is not that straightforward. Tofu is actually pretty easy. If you are just someone new, you can just look into it."
Li Han Tan, Co Founder, WLP

The decision pivoted on a single criterion:

"The key thing for me is my colleagues adopting it. That is the main thing."

Credits, not entity counts

Pricing mattered too. Other vendors charges per entity. For a firm where sixty percent of revenue comes from annual clients who only need processing a few months a year, per entity pricing made the math painful.

Tofu charges per extraction, not per entity. Clients and users are unlimited.

"It makes much more sense for us because we can utilize the credits for different activities and different clients based on our structure itself."
Li Han Tan, Co Founder, WLP

The rollout

Li Han's colleague Leona coordinated the training. Instead of a slide walkthrough, the session was hands on with WLP's staff navigating the product themselves.

"How the training was organized was a bit special. It was more of us trying to do the navigation. That is something new and it helps, because my colleague showing it brings more context for my other colleagues."
Li Han Tan, Co Founder, WLP

The Tofu team followed up with certification sessions for each staff member, which Li Han flagged as a useful behavioral lever.

"The certification idea is interesting. When you onboard clients, trying to ask them to achieve something may actually encourage them to do more."
Li Han Tan, Co Founder, WLP

The bank statement proof point

The immediate win was bank statement processing, where WLP had the most acute pain.

Manual Excel entry took 10 to 15 minutes per page. Other vendors took one to two hours for a full statement. Tofu processes the same statement in under two minutes.

"It is even faster than what we previously used. For my consultants who are trying to extract transaction volumes to quote new clients, speed is key. Trying to get back to your clients fast, that helps a lot."
Li Han Tan, Co Founder, WLP

That speed shows up in sales cycle compression, not just data entry time. WLP's consultants can quote prospects faster because they can see the transaction volume immediately.

A vision for the modern firm

For Li Han, extraction automation is not just a time saver. It is a lever to restructure how the firm is built.

"Junior bookkeepers will handle all the bookkeeping work, the data entry work, with the help of automations. That lowers cost further. The higher value work, the reviewing, the communication with clients, that stays locally in Singapore with senior staff."
Li Han Tan, Co Founder, WLP

In Li Han's view, bookkeeping is becoming less about typing and more about reviewing. AI handles the grunt work. Senior staff handle judgment, relationships, and advisory.

"A lot of the junior part of the book is no longer there. It is more of reviewing, checking, making sure that control is there."
Li Han Tan, Co Founder, WLP

This is the same thesis underpinning WLP's wider strategy. With IRAS InvoiceNow rolling out progressively through 2031, Li Han's firm is positioning to be the advisor that guides Singapore SMEs through the transition. Tofu handles the messy middle of the transition period, where firms are processing a mix of e invoices, PDFs, hardcopy, WhatsApp receipts, and handwritten documents all at once.

What he tells other Singapore and Malaysia firms

"Definitely recommend. If you intend to free up a lot of time for your junior bookkeepers, Tofu is something you have to look into. Instead of them doing Excel, instead of them looking into documents lists, let Tofu handle it."
